A Meadow Valley resident lost during the Bald Range wildfire evacuation
80 years old
RCMP reporting carried by Reuters and The Associated Press said an 80-year-old woman from Meadow Valley died while evacuating her home with a family member as the Bald Range wildfire forced people from the Summerland area.
Police said they believed her death was related to the wildfire and were investigating. She was the first reported fatality linked to this wildfire.
Her name has not been publicly released in the reliable reporting we reviewed. We will not guess or publish an unverified identity. If her family chooses to make her name public, or asks us to update this memorial, we will do so with care.
Family first
Memorial entries will be handled conservatively. We will not speculate about identity or circumstances, publish graphic material, or turn grief into promotional content.
If you are family or a loved one and want an entry corrected, expanded, removed, or accompanied by a family-approved remembrance or photo, please contact the Firemap team. Family wishes will be treated as the priority wherever possible.

The wildfire has also taken homes, belongings, familiar places and a sense of security from people across the area. As verified information becomes appropriate to preserve here, this page can hold those remembrances too, without exposing private grief or sensitive property details.
