Community reports
not an official emergency source

For communities and emergency planners

Built in Summerland, designed to be reusable elsewhere.

The Summerland Firemap was built as a reusable community-response system rather than a one-off map. It can be configured around a community's existing property, GIS, emergency-information, reporting and privacy requirements.

The public Firemap remains a community information project. It is not an official emergency source, professional damage assessment or substitute for an emergency-management system. Any future deployment should keep that distinction explicit unless the responsible authority adopts a different operating model.

Adaptable for local needs

What can be adapted

The exact data sources and operating requirements will differ by community. Firemap can be configured around the information, policies and public-service needs available locally.

Parcel and address workflows

Property-level search, selection and grouped reports can be connected to available local parcel/address data.

Moderated community reports

Reports can stay private until reviewed, with accountable moderation and support for later corrections.

Local GIS integration

Fire, evacuation, road, parcel and other reference layers can be integrated when suitable data feeds are available.

Privacy and evidence handling

Sensitive reporter and evidence information can remain private while approved property-status information is published.

Mobile-first operations

The public experience and authorized staff tools are designed to remain usable on phones during a fast-moving incident.

Lightweight deployment

Firemap is designed for lightweight deployment without unusually heavy infrastructure requirements.

Preparedness first

A deployment conversation can happen before an emergency.

Useful preparation is mostly about understanding the community's data, privacy requirements, operational ownership and public-information boundaries before those decisions become urgent.

Review local dataIdentify the property, emergency and GIS information that would support the public service.
Define responsibilitiesSet privacy boundaries, operational responsibilities and how public information will distinguish community reports from official information.
Prepare the deploymentConfigure the community, branding, approved data sources, privacy settings and resident-facing experience so it is ready when needed.
